You know you’re getting old when your reaction to new things is:
Con SARN it! What in the world will they think of next? Don’t we have enough to absorb….gay marriage….Bernie Sanders….Twitter timeline changes….without introducing something ELSE?
When I began noticing “smoothie bowls” the last half of 2015 or so, I thought, “Now why in the world don’t we just continue DRINKING our smoothies? I didn’t get it. I pushed thoughts of smoothie bowls aside and refocused my attention to fashioning realistic looking pine trees out of bottle brushes for my model train set-up.
I’m just kidding! I don’t have a model train set-up!
I refocused my attention to my knitting.
I’m just kidding! I’m not knitting anything!
(My rocking chair is broken.)
And yet the internet is exploding with smoothie bowls! Smoothie bowls are taking the internet away from cats. THAT’S how popular they are!
Or maybe cats lapping up smoothie bowls are taking over the internet. In any case, for one reason or another, smoothie bowls are the thing. Go look at the smoothie bowl gallery at foodgawker.com and see the beautiful images. All kidding aside, they’re pretty fantastic.
Of course I had to try my own:
And…upon making and eating my own…I understood why you can’t just DRINK them, as with a traditional smoothie. The reason is, you have chunky “fix in’s” on the top, which you mix into the smoothie as you eat. It’s a whole new experience! I sprinkled flax seed, coconut flakes, granola and mixed fruit on top of mine.
- For smoothie:
- 1 cup frozen mixed berries
- 1 banana
- 1 handful of kale
- 1 tablespoon ground flax seed
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened coconut flakes
- 1½ cups filtered water
- For toppings:
- Granola (or an unsweetened cereal, if you are watching your sugar)
- Fresh berries
- Fresh banana slices
- Additional ground flax seed or coconut flakes
- Blend smoothie ingredients in a high speed blender and top with fresh fruit and other goodies.
- Serve immediately.
Kids these days don’t know what they were missing!
